The face of the earth.

I am back.

I hope.

(I have been having a personality conflict with my computer.)

(So far, the computer is winning.)

Excellent; welcome back! A fie on that machine. By the way, I recently made one of your citrus liquors from a passel of leftover organic peels. Delicious and refreshing in the heat!

Welcome back! I had a Trojan Horse virus crash mine last week!

I’m looking forward to some great preserving ideas this harvest season! Lots of good lacto fermented recipes I hope! Hey, I think I’ve seen you on the Herb Menotr….just wanted to say “hi”. Thanks for a great resource of information.

You have to be more assertive with computers or they will take advantage of you.. show them who is the boss….. just kidding!! but you do have the power of the on/off switch if all else fails.

    Love the blog.

The other day we made elder flower fritters from the ‘original’ recipe that I got from a Bohemian farm family in northern Wisconsin in 1970 or so. Thought of you. If anyone wants that recipe, let me know.
Also, I’ve been making no-knead bread about twice a week (all we can eat) and not only is it delicious, but it saves us money because the good bread costs nearly $6 a loaf!
AND I made bone broth from Zach and Daniella’s lamb (the lamb was incredibly delicious) and the bone broth was, too. Made a stew with it from potatoes and carrots and onions. So those are only a few of the ways that you and the boy have improved our culinary lives. Thank you so much. I’m glad you’re back on the blog.
Question: do you have a preferred way of harvesting lemon verbena? With most herbs I cut the stem and then let it grow back, but it seems a shock to lemon verbena. Do you harvest from the bottom up?
    much love,

Caitlin, I just started a batch of the no-knead bread. Which recipe are you using? I am hoping that it comes out as good as everyone else’s seems to be. I am having trouble keeping it warm enough. How do you do it?

Thanks for the information in advance,

Caitlin — If you send the elderflower fritter recipe, I’ll make a post. (Is it the one in the family cookbook?) As for lemon verbena, I’ve never actually had my own plant. I think my mother harvests hers by cutting back, though — I’ll ask her.

Marie — I think Caitlin is making the bread I posted about here.

You happen to be posting recent blog entries on twitter likewise? If that’s the case I have to know your bank account, so i could follow you there and be informed.
