nah. If we did, then R couldn’t buy something from everyone at every farmers market within fifty miles.

Yeah I know. That is what Starrhillgirl did. I don’t like sauerkraut. I am a picky thing!
I have no one but myself to blame. Don’t think cabbage freezes well. Guess I’ll have to eat it! Got another pretty purple one today.

Ani — I used fresh onions, so they weren’t too strong. But it’s true, I do like raw onions.

LB — I think you could freeze cabbage if you blanched it first. Have you tried that? (And, yes, the boyfriend is right — no matter the size of my vegetable garden, I could never give up my farmers’ market habit.)

i heard that green tomatoes contain anti nutrients that must be cooked in order to deactivate, as in they are minor toxins. true/false?

Tomatoes are in the nightshade family. The green tomatoes (and others such as potato eyes..) do have toxins. Just be careful/moderate in your use. I haven’t heard if heating helps, but a search on nightshades might be of interest ….Especially if there are any problems with arthritis or nervous system in your family/self.

I haven’t tried it yet, but how bout a handful of that cabbage in a salsa for sweet crunch.

I don’t have any worries about toxins in green tomatoes, especially considering they’re not the center of my diet.
